We built Smart Lock as a Consumer IoT solution – connecting guests’ mobile phones to physical smart lock hardware to eliminate reception queues and physical key cards entirely. The platform spans iOS, Android, and a web admin portal, with digital key management, iBeacon-based navigation, and a full admin panel for hotel staff.

IoT Hotel Experience
Mobile App with Smart Lock SDK
We built iOS and Android apps that communicate directly with the smart lock hardware via Bluetooth. The mobile app sends an activation key to the SDK to unlock or lock the room door – with the key validated against either the local or global server depending on availability, ensuring the door can always be accessed reliably.
Smart Lock Service Portal
We built a web-based service portal for hotel staff to manage the full guest journey. The portal handles booking management, booking verification codes, room assignment, push notifications, key validation, duplicate key generation via KeyBox, language settings, and data analysis reports – giving staff everything they need in one place.
Estimote iBeacon Integration
We integrated Estimote iBeacon technology to broadcast personalised welcome messages to guests as they approach their room and provide navigation path guidance within the hotel. The iBeacon identifies guests by UDID and triggers contextual messages automatically, removing the need for staff to escort guests to their rooms.
Twilio SMS Integration
We integrated Twilio to send guests their booking verification code and digital room key via SMS. This ensures guests receive their key securely before arrival and can activate it without needing to interact with hotel reception at any point during check-in.

What We Built to Transform the
Hotel Guest Experience End to End
Digital Key Activation and Room Access
We built the digital key flow so guests receive their room assignment and activation key via SMS before arrival. On reaching the hotel, the guest opens the app, activates the key, and unlocks the room directly via Bluetooth – with no queue, no physical key card, and no interaction with reception required. The key is tied to the booking dates and automatically deactivates after the standard hotel checkout time, ensuring the room cannot be accessed once the stay ends.
Admin Portal with Guest Analytics
We built a web admin portal that gives hotel staff full visibility over guest activity and key usage. Staff can manage bookings, assign rooms and digital keys, send push notifications, and view data analysis reports covering activated key rates, duplicate key usage, guest check-in volumes by date, and guest ratings – giving management the data they need to make operational decisions during peak periods.
Bluetooth-Based Room Unlock
We built the room unlock mechanism around a Bluetooth connection between the guest’s mobile phone and the smart lock hardware. The app sends the activation key to the SDK, which communicates with the lock to grant or deny access – with key validation running against local or global servers depending on network availability.
Multi-Level Key Authentication
We built multiple layers of authentication into the digital key system to prevent misuse. Keys that are assigned incorrectly do not function, and any attempt to use a key outside its valid booking window is blocked automatically. The system also deactivates keys at checkout time so rooms cannot be accessed after a guest’s stay ends.
KeyBox Duplicate Key Generation
We built a KeyBox feature that lets guests generate duplicate digital keys for additional guests sharing the same room. Duplicate keys are managed through the service portal and tied to the same booking, giving hotel staff visibility over how many active keys exist for each room at any point.
Mobile App Checkout with Payment
We built a checkout flow directly into the app so guests can settle any outstanding dues and check out without visiting reception. Once payment is confirmed and checkout is completed, the digital key is deactivated automatically and the room is released back to hotel staff for the next guest.
iBeacon-Powered Welcome and Wayfinding
We integrated Estimote iBeacon technology to detect guests as they move through the hotel and broadcast personalised welcome messages and room navigation guidance to their phones. The iBeacon identifies each guest by UDID and triggers the right message at the right moment – making arrival feel personal and removing the need for staff escorts.
Data Analysis Reports for Hotel Management
We built a reporting module into the admin portal that tracks key activation rates, duplicate key usage, guest check-in volumes, and guest ratings over time. Hotel management can use these reports to monitor operational performance, identify peak periods, and make staffing and room allocation decisions based on real data.
